 We have such a variety of birds that come to our feeders.  My husband gave these two the tiles because he felt the one on the right looked like he was being chastised by the other bird, perhaps his mate. These are two STELLAR JAYS.

I always know when they show up at the feeders because they are the noisiest creatures.  I decided to try my hand at working in acrylic this time along with the collage.  I find my work is tighter when I do the birds in acrylic rather then oils.  The collaged images on the side are from my own photographs; and I work from my own photographs to paint the birds.

On another note; I had a devil of a time trying to upload the pictures from my computer.  When I clicked on the insert the image button it wouldn't display the "choose file " button.  After some searching online I read that if I hit the HTML button in my post I could do it that way, then return to the compose button.  Talking about going in thru the back door!  Has any one else had this problem and if so what is the fix????

Problems..

This post is to let everyone know who views my blog that I somehow messed up my PayPal button under my picture posts.

Not sure what I did wrong, it worked on earlier ones I posted.  Anyway, if you click on the PayPal button on the right, which is under my followers and profile, that button is use able.  It takes you to PayPal and asks for a description of the painting.  I'll keep working on to try and resolve where I went wrong; although I have to admit sometimes the harder I try to fix something on my computer the more problems I can create.

On my Daily PaintWorks postings the button works...go figure!

Once again I have been playing with my blogs look.  Blogger has so many options and I guess as an artist I am compelled to try different designs.

This weekend August 11th and 12th I will be doing the West Linn "ART  FESTIVAL IN THE FOREST." It's such a fun event to do, the music is wonderful and the art outstanding, along with seeing the tree dancers.  The weather is supposed to be very hot again for Oregon, but the event is mostly under the trees which keeps the heat down.  The "Birdie Boxes" are a sampling of what I have in the show along with my oil and collage paintings.   If your looking for a nice event for the weekend stop on by and say hello.

I really have trouble sometimes trying to get the color of my photos accurate.  The yellow of this back ground is not as deep as this appears.  I use a program called Microsoft Digital Imaging, a program Microsoft no longer makes or supports.

I am getting ready to do an outdoor Art Festival called Art in the Forest in West Linn at the Mary S. Young park.  I wanted to only focus on  my bird and collage art.  This fellow is a Portland Crow, perhaps near the Burnside Bridge. The left side of the painting is collaged and the Crow and background is done in Oils.

Tulip Tree Buds

Thought I would post another piece I am working on.  I was missing working on a flower painting.  I used a photograph I had taken of a tulip tree at our local mall.  As I was taking the picture of what I thought was just the flower a mall security guard approached me and told me I wasn't allowed to take photographs on  the mall property.  I nicely explained I was just taking a picture of the flowers and showed him what the image looked like, but he said no more photographs because part of one of the mall buildings was in the photo.  What a sad commentary about the world we live in now.

On another note, in a previous post I mentioned a work of mine being what I felt was copied.  A friend lent me a marvelous little book titled "Steal Like an Artist" by Austin Kleon.  It's truly inspirational for artists, writers or musicians.  I ordered a copy for myself from Amazon so I could use a chapter each day to inspire me.

COWS

Gee I realized hadn't posted in awhile.  I was juried into an Arts Festival show in August and thought I would change it up a bit.  Looking at other artists work on the Internet I see where quite a few are working on small pieces, mostly in a square format in a size 6" x 6". So  I thought join the crowd and do the cow the cow series,all in 6x6 square format.  Keeping them small might be a good price point for more people to buy who can't afford larger pieces, but still want to buy art or support an artists work.

What are your thought on prices and size of your art work?  They are oils done on gessoed 1/8' thick MDF board unframed.  A friend I suggested I show them with a frame and give the buyer the option of price with or without the frame.  Have any of you tried this and if so was it successful?

WOW...I really take bad pictures of my art.  I previewed what I posted and see that all the pieces look way too dark.  The pink background in the first one isn't nearly that dark.
